Zipline Braking Mechanism
During my coursework in the Spring of 2020, I took Kinematics and Dynamics of Machinery. In this class, within a group of four, we designed a zip line braking system that a user could operate if they reached excessive speeds or wanted to stop their experience.
In this project, we applied real-world knowledge to develop the best possible design while encountering complex challenges. To make this a reality we:
- Implemented the use of kinematic skeleton diagrams to correctly model degrees of freedom and areas of concern
- Used SolidWorks to model the prototype and test kinematic behavior via 3D animations
This product was designed in SolidWorks, and it was unable to come to fruition due to the constraints of COVID-19. The plan was to construct the structure from aluminum using manufacturing techniques.
